Dear Community Representative, 

On behalf of Carl Vinson VA Medical Center and our Mental Health Service Line, I would like to invite you to participate in our first Mental Health Summit. The purpose of the Mental Health Summit is to enhance the mental health and well-being of Veterans and their family members through increased collaboration between the VA and the community.  Our goal is to engage in active dialogue on how we as a community can address the mental healthcare needs of Veterans and their families. Topics of discussion of include: 

• Who in the community cares for and provides services for Veterans and their families? 
• What gaps or “disconnects” in mental health services for Veterans and their families who seek services across the entire community continuum of care have been identified? 
• What information about mental and behavioral health resources in VA and in the community is available? 

The Mental Health Summit will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center, Dublin, GA.  Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the auditorium located in building 2B.  The Summit will begin at 9:00 a.m. A draft agenda is attached.

The next DHR Board Meeting will be held on March 21.

The Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Addictive Diseases
(MHDDAD) Committee of the Board of Human Resources will meet the on
March 21 from 10:00 a.m. to noon on the 22nd floor at 2 Peachtree
Street, room 270. The DHR MHDDAD Committee meetings are open to the
public.

The monthly meetings of the DHR Board of Human Resources are open to
the public. Meetings begin at 1:00 p.m. and are normally held in room
250 on the 29th floor of the Georgia Department of Human Resources
central offices at 2 Peachtree Street, Atlanta.

If you would like to attend the DHR MHDDAD meeting prior to the MH
Advocates meeting, there is a nice cafeteria on the 2nd floor were you
can have lunch between meetings.

2/26 NAMI meeting with speaker on depression

Today , February 26, Liz Bell-Willis will adress the monthly meeting of NAMI-Central Ga. on "Depression." In any given year 13 to 14 million Americans suffer from clinical depression. It is the leading cause of disability among women. Ms. Bell-Willis is a registered nurse with 21 years of experience in psychiatric nursing. The meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. at the New Hope Center at 100 Story Road, Warner Robins The public is invited to come and ask questions. For more information or directions call 328-0508.
