Looking ahead to the year 2050, population estimates suggest that one in every four individuals will be 65 years or older.  With this increased number, there are numerous issues that impact social workers practitioners.  All social workers, regardless of practice area or context, will be facing issues of an older population.  This presentation will examine aging from a person:environment perspective.  The five hour course will be divided into various sections that look at aging in a comprehensive way.  In each section, content will be provided as an overview of the issues of aging, and an activity or exercise will be included.  In addition, evidence informed practice approaches will be particularly highlighted.

Nancy P. Kropf is Professor and Director of the School of Social Work, Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University. Nancy’s area of research and scholarship is late life caregiving relationships, with the focus specifically on older adults as care providers.  Currently, she is the GSU lead for the Atlanta Area Geriatric Education Center comprised of Emory University (lead), Morehouse School of Medicine, and the Atlanta Regional Commission.  She was the President of the Association of Gerontology Education – Social Work (AGE – SW), and is a Fellow and Treasurer of the Gerontological Society of America.
